Pipe is the perfect setting for the open of the 2012 season. An iconic and famous wave, the Banzai Pipeline is often referred to as the best wave on the planet. Known for its faultless, heaving top-to-bottom barrels and its close proximity to shore, not only is it the perfect wave for those willing to challenge its ferocity, but its also a spectacle for the live audience on the beach. The DKWT tour heads to Peru for the second Grand Slam event of the year (March 1-4). Jose Ugarte and his team have moved the event forward to get better conditions and will concentrate solely on Drop Knee with $12,000 up for grabs.
“Our main focus is to attract the worlds best DK riders and give them the contest they deserve” said Ugarte.
This is the biggest stand alone DK event on the 2012 tour and will set the stage for another exciting year for Drop-Knee lovers.

Last years extreme final day conditions set the stage for another amazing contest at one of Australia wildest slabs. The trials will once again be staged at Gas Bay and the main event will feature the new “Show-down” format that will be used in 2012. Margret River will light up with the worlds best riders from March 26.

The WWT event will be run in conjunction with the Manapany Pro challenge. Jerome Boulanouar and Roxanne Bonnet both locals and former event winners will be part of the contest, Jerome just came back from his Hawaiian trip for the IBA Pipeline Pro will also be helping organise the competition. Roxanne will compete against internationals in order to grab the 1000 IBA tour points and $5,000 on offer.

The Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival will be held on May 9 to 13 in the city of Antofagasta, Chile. The wave is called “Power Dome” and is located in the south of the city, 15minutes from downtown.

To get to Antofagasta from Santiago (Capital of Chile) there are two option by air (2 hours flight) or by ground (18 hours).
For accommodation, there are several options, closest to the event site is a 10 minute walk and is the South Beach Hotel, which has cabins for 2, 4 and 6 people. Reservations can be made to elaslosas@vtr.net.
All hotel bookings must be made at least one week prior to arrival in the city.

The IBA Makes a welcome return to Brazil in 2012 with the wedgey peaks of Itacoitaria hosting a Mens GSS event. This place is perfect to showcase the sport to a large audience of dedicated fans and is close to the city of Rio. GT says if the banks are good we are in for a real show!

Late August sees the tour head to Europe for the 6 Star Ferrol Pro (Aug 16-19) followed by the Sintra Portugal Pro (WWT/GSS/DKWT – Aug 25- Sept 2) This year Sintra has been extended by 2 extra days to allow for the best possible conditions. A classic festival atmosphere and European Summer combine to make this one of the longest running and most successful events on tour.

Middles in Isabella delivered 10 days of incredible surf for the inaugural EWS and Natasha & Bianca are doing it all agin in 2012. This event put Puerto Rico on the map as a serious GSS venue and the contest week will once again coincide with the infamous “Swell of the dead” that produces waves during this time frame.
