Now in it’s 3rd consecutive year, the Encanto Pro is all systems GO from the 23rd – 27th of October 2013. Having supported the GSS tour for the first 2 editions, the Encanto Pro organisers have decided to roll out the red carpet in 2013 for the next stars of the sport, the GQS hopefuls with a prize purse of $30 000 as well as the top woman and Drop Knee riders of today by putting on a Grand Slam status event for both divisions inside the same dates featuring prize purses of $20000 and $10 000 respectively.
This year, the Encanto Pro will be held from the 23rd till the 27th of October 2013. The notorious ” Swell of the dead” that smashes our shores every year late october or early november, came a little early last year in the form of Hurricane Sandy and thus, by having the event over these dates, we are expecting another year of great waves across the entire period.
The Encanto Pro 2013 will be held at Playa Jobos in Isabella, Puerto Rico. A mere 2 km’s from Middles beach, which played host to the first 2 editions. Jobos is a sand bottom, wedgy set-up which can fire in the right conditions, Large Northerly swells and light southerly winds both which are associated with this time of year. Jobos provides a ripable wave from 2 – 8 ft and is therefore an awesome venue for competitors, not too mention the avid supporter. Jobos also boasts a variety of bars and restaurants literally on the sand plus a natural lagoon style beach where people of all ages can enjoy the ocean in relative safety. Basically, Jobos promises to deliver a vibe like no other beach can, once again ” Puerto Rico does it better”.
The Encanto Pro 2013 will feature 3 divisions. A 6 star Mens GQS, a Grand Slam for Women and a Grand Slam for Dropknee. The event is open to anyone, from any country of any age. We’re expecting a massive turnout again this year, couple that with an insane vibe and some great conditions to compete in you’d be hard pressed to find a better place to be over these dates.
So you’re in, you’ve decided to make the trip over to Puerto Rico – What now?
Getting to Puerto Rico :
Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean and falls under the jurisdiction of the USA. Therefore, first things first, some Nationalities may render you ineligible to enter the United States without first acquiring a Visa. Google ” Entry requirements to the United States for (Insert Nationality here) ” and you will be well on your way. Should you require any letters of invitation and so forth, do not hesitate to contact us using the email addresses listed below.
Getting to Puerto Rico is very straightforward and the most common route to take is VIA the US mainland. American airlines, Delta, United, Continental (but to name a few) all fly to and from PR daily to various destinations within the US. If you are from closer by (The Caribbean and surrounds ) you might be able to fly direct to either San Juan or Aguadilla airports. Aguadilla is closer to the event venue but San Juan is the bigger airport and therefore offers more options. Those travelling from Europe might be able to fly direct from Madrid to San Juan on Iberia.
Getting to Isabella
Isabella is roughly 1.5 hours drive from San Juan or 15 minutes from Aguadilla, depending on traffic. Puerto Rico has a pretty good infrastructure and all the highways are very well sign posted. You can find a map attached, as well as a Google earth image of the actual Jobos area for your convenience.
A car is a necessity in Puerto Rico. Both San Juan and Aguadilla airports have car hire facilities in or outside the terminal buildings. Hire costs are relative to elsewhere in the world and when split amongst a few people are totally affordable. Be sure to take out the required insurance as to always have yourself covered in case of an accident or mishap.
Staying in Isabella or surrounds :
When it comes to staying in Isabella, it will be incredibly difficult to find something superior to Parador Villas Del Mar Hau. Located on the #466 ( The iconic road that runs parallel to some of Puerto Rico’s most beautiful beaches), the resort boasts a small town like feel, with an array of wooden cottages spread out across a large property on either side of a small lane that runs through the middle. Out the front, a maximum distance of 30 metres from the front step of the furthest cottage lies a 500m long private beach, flanked on either side by huge lumps of rock – typical of the area. There is a great restaurant on site, plus a pool, laundry facilities, High Speed wireless internet , Air conditioning and fans ETC
This year, the good folk at Parador Villas del Mar Hau are offering an unbeatable offer. You pay $75 per day and you receive all of the above as well as 3 meals per day included in your stay.
